Saving Batman vs Superman

In light of the release of the new trailer for Batman vs Superman; Dawn of Justice, this article would look at what director Zack Snyder should and should not do to make a film that both appeases the fanboys, and has a mass market appeal.
Special attention should be paid to other failed attempts at cinema crossovers (e.g. Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator).

    The Fast and Furious Phenomenon

An in-depth look in how the 2001 'The Fast and the Furious' became a surprise hit, survived two lacklustre sequels, and went on to become the unstoppable box-office juggernaut it is to day.

The article could examine the tweaks that have been made to genre throughout the series, as well as examine the different actors who have come and gone.

    • When you really look at the fast and furious films now-a-days, they have seemed to gone into self-parody. They know how ridiculous the films are, but they just try to have fun with it; see how far they can take their action scenes. – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago

    Star Wars: A Noobie's Guide

What are some need-to-know things a noobie like myself needs to know to be ready for The Force Awakens?A basic run down of important characters, themes, and the universe would be important.

    • Rule #1 Ignore Episodes I, II and III. If you remember that then you should be alright. – Michael Clancy 9 years ago

    • Episode III had merits. I truely think it did, there were some good action bits, some interesting politics, good lines ("only Sith deal in absolutes!" is a very profound statement) just ignore Euan McGregor saying 'younglings'. – Francesca Turauskis 9 years ago

    • I'd actually say that it'd be necessary to address the prequels; if this is meant to be a guide for people who have absolutely no knowledge of the Star Wars films, then to avoid confusion, it'd probably be best to talk about the history of the series as a whole, not cutting out the bits that some don't care for. That doesn't mean the writer has to endorse the prequels; it just means they ought to maintain their integrity and address all six movies in equal detail. – August Merz 9 years ago

    • I don't think the prequels will be needed to go into much detail here, nor the expanded universe (comics and television shows). Of what we've seen from The Force Awakens so far, there is very little that is relatable to the prequels, I really think you only need to know about the original trilogy to be ready for, to understand fully The Force Awakens. That's not to say that the prequels should be left out entirely; they do offer some good back story/ historical context to the Star Wars universe. – Jamie 9 years ago

    Fashion and cinema

A study of some (all them would take a very long time!) famous fashion designers who worked for films that became classics, and in which costumes were particularly prominent. Think about how some designers also had/have their muse, often actors or actresses, and how they have formed a solid partneship over the years. I am thinking about Yves Saint Laurent and Catherine Deneuve, Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn, Jean Paul Gautier for The Fifth Element, Manolo Blanhik for Marie Antoinette,

    • oooh this is very interesting. You could also add in about Disney's Cinderella and who the fashion in that had it's own exhibition in Leicester Square and how the designer of Bella's Twilight wedding dress was invited to the premiere of the Twilight film. Also could add all about how films can influence fashion – wierdbuthatsok 9 years ago

Almodovar's work and the question of womanhood

Almodovar is working on his next project, Silencio, which will be based around female protagonists and the difficulty of being a woman in the face of crisis.
How is this theme recurrent in Almodovar's filmography? How is womanhood an essential theme in his work and why?

    • This is an excellent topic. Almodovar's films, more than almost any male director I can think of, delve deeply into what it means to be a woman; among them All About My Mother, Volver, and of course Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. – HesseBunuel90 9 years ago

Dallas Buyers Club Controversy: What Happens Now?

The Australian Federal Court, revealed the details of over 4000 people guilty of downloading the 2013 hit. Will this mark the end of internet privacy? Is downloading close to being overthrown by Hollywood and the legal system?

    • Did those people illegally download the film? If so, that's hardly a breach of internet privacy. One could certainly address the rising trend of downloading shows/movies and whether legal action should be taken for something so innocuous, but on the whole, this topic does get into a lot of tricky legal issues. It can be written, but one would have to keep their wits about them and address every angle of the case you mention, cases like it, and especially cases that aren't like it in order to weight the validity of the laws in place. – August Merz 9 years ago

    Short Film as Stories

The idea kind of speaks for itself, but I think the thing I would like to know is: How does the short film allow for story to be told? What are the pros and cons of short films? Do they have limitations as a medium? A few examples of shorts to look into are Dark Tales of Japan, Escape (may be found under Princess in Another Castle), Luna, and, of course Pixar shorts.

      Actors Deserving of an Oscar

Who are some of the biggest and best actors/actresses who are yet to receive an Academy Award? What are their next projects?

      • When doing this kind of list, it best to consider who the actors were up against that year. The best actor/actress category is very competitive, and it can be hard to really determine who gave the best performance that year. Look at this years Oscars: Jake Gyllenhaal should of been nominated for Nightcrawler, but who out of the 5 nominees for best actor should of been kicked out to make room for Gyllenhaal? – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago
