The relentless misrepresentation of Mental Illness in media

13 reasons why, Split, Shutter Island, and many more to name that have done more damage to the community than good with their bad representation of different mental illnesses.

    • As noted, this is not objective. It also needs a narrower focus. For example, what are the specific negative representations of mental illness in these pieces of media? What should they be replaced with (if you present a problem like this, you should also present a solution to the problem). Are there any good representations of mental illness that consumers can currently go to, as alternatives to the bad representations? – Stephanie M. 11 months ago

Victorian literature and the Gothic aesthetic go so perfectly well together but I especially like the pieces when their issues of the regressive Victorian society are addressed while the aesthetic is being appreciated.

Booktok has made reading an aesthetic activity, it aligns with the fast consumption of literature. the fast-paced environment of such social media has made it much too easy to promote a book and have it be popular just based on its cover or an additional plot line and that is it, it’s out to be purchased by everyone. The thing is that just like audio that goes popular and people then use it over and over for engagement, the same thing is happening with books, if a book is popular, people will buy it just to show it to increase engagement on their account.

first of all, marvellously researched piece, you understood and critiqued the core ideologies that Bioshock explore splendidly.
But I would like to say that though It is true, that Bioshock elicits a lot of questions than answers when it comes to the ideologies it explores, I would like to argue, perhaps that is the point, to question these repetitive and harmful ideologies of creating a utopia without understanding that there is no such thing as a utopia for one without it becoming dystopia for another. Asking these questions of how badly the system is corrupt and that it needs to be addressed is what Bioshock highlights in its game.
